My hoover has sucked the gerbil up?

i was hoovering the floor when i took the hose out of the hoover to pick some stuborn dust up i left the hose on the floor while i left the room,when i returned i heard a WHUMPH sound, i turned the va off and looked at the clear plastic dust holder and to my horror theirs the little fellow looking out at me,he looks ok but i dont know how to open the hoover (Dyson) should i just smash it open with a hammer.
